Synthesis of bridged macrocyclic polyethers of high complexing ability with group 1a salts

Abstract

Two members of a new type of bridged macrocyclic polyether having carbon bridgeheads have been synthesised by bridging the hydroxy groups of cis-dihydroxydibenzo-14-crown-4 (3a) with 3,6-dioxaoctane-1,8-diyl and 3,6,9-trioxaundecane-1,11-diyl links. These ligands show high complexing ability in water with sodium, potassium, and rubidium salts.
