Electronic excitation of acetonitrile, methylisonitrile and propyne

Abstract

The excitation of the isoelectronic molecules [1H3]- and [2H3]-acetonitrile, methylisonitrile and propyne have been investigated by means of electron impact energy loss spectrometry both at high (500 eV) and at low (25–70 eV) impact energy. The results are in good agreement with the results of semi-empirical calculations using the HAM/3 method. Several Rydberg series have been analysed, and a new assignment for these transitions in acetonitrile is proposed.
