Photoionization mass spectrometric study of KrF2

Abstract

From a study of the process KrF2+hν→ Kr++ F + F, a value for ΔH0f0(KrF2) of + 15.52 kcal mol–1 has been derived. This implies an average Kr—F bond energy of 0.46 eV. The appearance potential of KrF+ from KrF2(⩽13.39 eV) has provided a means for D0(KrF+)[gt-or-equal] 1.53 eV to be deduced. A crude correlation with a recent photoelectron spectroscopic study has been noted. The first ionization potential of KrF2 may be slightly lower than 13.39 eV, but the intensity of KrF+2 was too weak to establish this value.
