Low frequency vibrations of some π-allyl complexes of Ni and Pd studied by incoherent inelastic neutron scattering

Abstract

Inelastic neutron scattering spectra (⩽ 800 cm–1) of (π-C3H5NiBr)2, (π-C3H5PdCl)2 and (π-C3H5)2X, where X = Ni or Pd have been obtained. Comparisons with optical data have enabled us to assign the low frequency vibrations. Using model potential functions we have calculated effective force constants for the torsions. Our results agree with previous force constant calculations which indicate that the force constants for the metal–allyl bond have the same value for Ni and Pd compounds.
