Photoelectron spectra of the unbranched C5–C7 alkenes, aldehydes and ketones

Abstract

This paper reports studies by He(I) photoelectron spectroscopy (p.e.s.) of n-alkenes, di-n-alkyl ketones and n-aldehydes with 5–7 carbon atoms in the chain. Ionisation potentials calculated using INDO for these compounds are reported and compared with the experimental results. Possible uses of p.e.s. in distinguishing isomers and homologues are discussed.
