Flow equation for coagulated suspensions

Abstract

From analysis of the coagulation–redispersion kinetics of a sheared suspension an equation for the viscosity at any shear rate is developed. The use of an analogy with chemical reaction kinetics attributes some physical significance to each of the flow constants in this equation. The technique for the determination of these flow constants from experimental data is outlined and an accurate fit of this equation to experimental flow curves is demonstrated.
