Molecular interaction between ICl and diphenyl sulphides. A vibrational study

Abstract

Infrared spectra of molecular complexes between ICl and substituted aromatic sulphides have been measured in the range of 500–250 wavenumbers. Both frequency shifts and intensity variations in the νI—Cl stretching band have been observed. These are explained in terms of the substituent effects of the aromatic sulphur compound, acting as the donor in the charge-transfer interaction.
