Amino acid-catalysed alkylation of hydroxyanthraquinones with 2-hydroxytetrahydropyrans

Abstract

2-(Tetrahydropyran-2-yl)hydroxyanthraquinones have been produced in high yield by treatment of hydroxyanthraquinones with 2-hydroxytetrahydropyrans and with either (S)-(–)-proline or (S)-(–)-phenylalanine in dimethylformamide.
