Synthesis of cluster compounds via nucleophilic metal complexes; X-ray crystal structures of [Os3Pt(µ-H)2(CO)10{(C6H11)3P}] and [Os2Pt2(µ-H)2(CO)8(Ph3P)2]

Abstract

The dihydrido complex [H2Os3(CO)10] reacts with [Pt(C2H4)2(R3P)], [Ni(C2H4)(Ph3P)2], [AuMe(Ph3P)], and [Rh(acac)(C2H4)2] to afford, respectively, [H2Os3Pt(CO)10-(R3P)](R = C6H11 or Ph), [H2NiOs3(CO)10(Ph3P)2], [HAuOs3(CO)10(Ph3P)], and [H2Os3Rh(acac)(CO)10], while [H2Os(CO)4] and [Pt(C2H4)2(Ph3P)] yield [H2Os2Pt2(CO)8(Ph3P)2]; X-ray diffraction studies have established the structures of the osmium–platinum compounds.
