Graphical assay of ternary mixtures of ethanol, methanol and water on the basis of dipping refractometer readings and the relative density of the mixture

Abstract

A rapid and reasonably precise method of assaying ternary mixtures of ethanol, methanol and water by use of the Zeiss dipping refractometer and measurement of the relative density of the mixture is described. Evidence for the presence of hydrates of ethanol and methanol is also presented.
