Photoreactions of some benzylic sulphones

Abstract

Formation of a mixture of three bibenzyl derivatives by irradiation of benzyl 4-chlorobenzyl sulphone proves that desulphonylation of acyclic dibenzyl sulphones is an intermolecular process. Irradiation of benzyl t-butyl sulphone gives bibenzyl and 2-methyfpropane-2-sulphonic acid.
