Synthesis of 1,6,7-triphenyltricyclo[4.1.0.02,7]heptan-3-one and rearrangement of 3-(1,2,3-triphenylcycloprop-2-enyl)propanoic acid

Abstract

Copper-catalysed thermal decomposition of 1-diazo-4-(1,2,3-triphenylcycloprop-2-enyl)butan-2-one (9), synthesised by conventional procedures from (1,2,3-triphenylcycloprop-2-enyl)acetic acid, produced 1,6,7-triphen-yltricyclo[4.1.0.02,7]heptan-3-one (1). The reaction of 3-(1,2,3-triphenylcycloprop-2-enyl)propanoic acid with oxalyl chloride gave 2,3,4-triphenylphenol, which was also prepared by an independent synthesis.
