Inelastic neutron scattering study of C2H4 adsorbed on type X zeolites

Abstract

Inelastic neutron scattering (I.N.S.) spectra of C2H4 adsorbed, at two coverages, on a Ag+ exchanged 13X zeolite have been measured. Several of the modes of vibration of the adsorbed gas relative to the zeolite surface have been observed. These have been assigned from considerations of their relative intensities, shifts on deuteration (C2D4 and trans-C2D2H2) and by comparison with the I.N.S. spectra of some organometallic complexes. The I.N.S. spectra of the Na+ exchanged form of the zeolite were also obtained; however, no firm assignments could be made.
