Hydroisomerization and hydrocracking of n-pentane(3-C13) with type Y zeolite

Abstract

Highly enriched n-pentane(3-13C) in the presence of hydrogen has been used to investigate the mechanisms of hydroisomerization and hydrocracking over a calcined and reduced palladium on ammonium exchanged type Y zeolite. Mass spectrographic analysis of the product isopentane shows that hydroisomerization is an intramolecular process which involves at least two distinct pathways. Analysis of the hydrocracked products shows that a complex mechanism is operative.
