Hydration and dimerization of some aliphatic carboxylic acids in benzene as studied by partition

Abstract

The hydration and dimerization of some aliphatic carboxylic acids have been studied by partition. Monomer monohydrate, dimer mono- and tri-hydrates have been formed in benzene contacted with water. The formation constant of the monohydrates of monomeric and dimeric acids is related linearly to the acidity of acids.
