Interaction of di-t-butyl nitroxide with alkanols: e.s.r. measurements

Abstract

The 14N hyperfine coupling constant in di-t-butyl nitroxide dissolved in ethanol + carbon tetrachloride mixtures depends on the solvent composition. The analysis of the effect in terms of hydrogen-bonding between the radical and ethanol, and self-association of the latter, is discussed. Coupling constants for the radical in seven simple alkanols are reported.
