Temperature dependence of the interaction second virial coefficient using gas–liquid chromatography

Abstract

Measurement of the interaction second virial coefficient (B12) of nitrogen with methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, and n-butanol on the di-isodecyl phthalate stationary phase has been made with a high pressure gas–liquid chromatograph (g.l.c.). The investigation was made up to 2.5 atm and from 30 to 70°C.

B 12 data from the static method exist for the nitrogen + methanol system. They generally agree well with the B12 from the g.l.c. method, but show a slightly different trend. The errors associated with the B12 values from g.l.c. are about ± 17 cm3 mol–1.
