Redox extractions from molten alkali-metal cyanides. Part 1. Mechanism for extractions with liquid zinc alloys

Abstract

The distribution of Rh, Ir, Ru and Cu between a 9% zinc cyanide solution in molten eutectic KCN–NaCN and a liquid binary alloy of Zn with Bi or Sn was determined at 530 °C. The results fit an exchange-type extraction mechanism e.g. [graphic omitted] The activity-coefficient ratios of the extracted metal in the components of the binary alloy phases can also be calculated from the distribution data.
