Infrared and Raman spectra of di-µ-halogeno-bis[dihalogenocadmate(II)] anions

Abstract

The salts [NR4]x[(CdX3)x](R = Prn or longer n-alkyl; X = Cl, Br, or I) are shown by i.r. and Raman spectroscopy to contain the halide-bridged dimeric anions [Cd2X6]2– both in the solid state and when dissolved in non-complexing solvents. Recent conclusions on the nature of the mixed-halide systems [NPrn4]x[(CdX2Y)x] are shown to be questionable. Previous assignments for the anions [CdX4]2– have been augmented from studies on [NR4]2[CdX4].
