Preparation and properties of alkali-metal hexafluoromolybdates(IV)

Abstract

Alkali-metal hexafluoromolybdates(IV), M2[MoF6](M = Li, Na, Rb, or Cs), have been prepared by interaction of equivalent amounts of MoF6 and Ml in sulphur dioxide solution. The potassium salt has been obtained impure, mixed with hexafluoromolybdate(III). Unit-cell dimensions and magnetic susceptibilities of all the compounds have been measured, and i.r. and visible spectra in the case of caesium.
