Photoinduced decomposition of sodium perchlorate and sodium chlorate when studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy

Abstract

The kinetics of the photoinduced decomposition of solid Na[ClO4] and Na[ClO3] have been derived from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic data. Sodium perchlorate is shown to undergo reduction to the chloride via sodium chlorate in a consecutive first-order process, and evidence for a defect surface NaCl phase is presented.
