Complexes of palladium and platinum with tetraethyl diphosphite and related ligands

Abstract

Tetraethyl diphosphite (L1) forms complexes [M2Cl4L12](M = Pd or Pt), [Pt2Cl4L1(PMe2Ph)2](2), and [Pt2L12(PMe2Ph)4][BPh4]4 in which it forms bidentate bridges between two metal atoms. Bis(OO′-ethylene) diphosphite (L2) is unidentate in cis-[MCl2L22](M = Pd or Pt) and bridging in (2) and in similar complexes. 1,1,3,3-Tetraethoxy-2-ethyldiphosphazane (L4) and 2-ethyl-1,1,3,3-tetraphenoxydiphosphazane (L5) form chelate complexes [MCl2L](M = Pt, L = L4; M = Pd or Pt, L = L5). Explanations are offered for the differences in stoicheiometry of the complexes formed by these ligands.
