Chemistry of polydentate ligands. Part 2. The mode of co-ordination of 6,6′-dihydrazino-2,2′-bipyridyl ligands with nickel(II) and zinc(II) in octahedral complexes

Abstract

Using 1H n.m.r. and i.r. spectral techniques, the title ligands have been found to co-ordinate to NiII in both the cis-α and cis-β modes. With zinc(II). only the cis-α geometry is adopted except in the case of the least sterically congested hydrazone, that derived from acetaldehyde. where the cis-β complex is also formed. The third alternative bonding configuration, the trans structure, has not been observed.
