Reactivity of main-group–transition-metal bonds. Part 7. Kinetics of the reaction of mercury(II) halides with compounds containing tin–chromium, –molybdenum, –tungsten, –manganese, –rhenium, and –iron bonds

Abstract

The kinetics of the cleavage of tin–transition-metal bonds by mercury(II) halides have been measured for the following reactions: [Cr(cp)(CO)3(SnMe3)] with HgBr2; [Mo(cp)(CO)3(SnMe3)] with HgX2(X = Cl, Br, or l); [W(cp)(CO)3(SnMe3)] with HgBr2; [Mn(CO)5(SnMe3)] with HgX2(X = Cl, Br, or l); [Re(CO)5(SnMe3)] with HgBr2; [Fe(cp)(CO)2(SnMe3)] with HgX2(X = Cl, Br, or l)(cp =η-cyclopentadienyl). The reactions proceed via an adduct formed between the reactants, and the reactivity patterns resemble those for iodination.
