Interaction of arylmetal compounds of group 1B with copper(I) and silver(I) trifluoromethanesulphonate; a novel biaryl synthesis and a route to hexanuclear aryl–CuAg, –AgAu, and –CuAu clusters

Abstract

Whereas selective biaryl formation is observed when arylcopper compounds 4-MeC6H4Cu, 2-Me2NC6H4Cu, and 2-Me2NCH2C6H4Cu are treated in exact 1:1 molar ratio with (CF3SO3)Cu, reactions of 2-Me2NC6H4M (M = Cu or Au) with (CF3SO3)Cu (2:1) and of Ar4Au2Li2 with (CF3SO3)Cu or (CF3SO3)Ag (1:2) afford novel hexanuclear cluster compounds of the type Ar4M4M′2(CF3SO3)2.
