Kinetics and mechanism of addition of acids to olefins. Part 2. Addition of trifluoroacetic acid to (+)-(R)-limonene in weakly polar media
Abstract
A detailed kinetic study has been made of the addition of trifkaoroacetic acid to (+)-(R)-limonene in weakly polar solvents. Activation parameters and kinetic isotope effects are reported and the mechanism of the reaction is discussed together with an assessment of the relative importance of the monomeric and dimeric acid species in the reaction.
