A variable temperature study of the 13C n.m.r. spectrum of the title cation (III) has been made, and an upper limit has been estimated for the free energy barrier to narcissistic rearrangement. Spectra of suitable reference compounds are reported and the interpretation of the spectrum of the 1,2-diphenylnorbornyl cation is discussed.
