Synthesis of nephroarctin and phenarctin

Abstract

The synthesis of the lichen depsides nephroarctin (3-methoxy-2,5,6-trimethylphenyl 3,5-diformyl-2,4-dihydroxy-6-methylbenzoate)(1) and phenarctin (3-hydroxy-4-methoxycarbonyl-2,5,6-trimethylphenyl 3,5-diformyl-2,4-dihydroxy-6-methylbenzoate)(2) is described.
