Metal-catalysed organic photoreactions. Photo-oxidation of αβ-unsaturated ketones and o-methylacetophenone in the presence of copper(II) salts

Abstract

Dypnone (β-methylchalcone), para-substituted dypnones, and mesityl oxide (4-methylpent-3-en-2-one) underwent photo-oxidation in methanol only with catalytic assistance by metal salts. The reaction is compared with the photo-oxidation of o-methylacetophenone, and the role of the metal compounds is discussed.
