201Hg quadrupole interaction in the electron spin resonance of the CH2HgCl radical
Abstract
The e.s.r. spectrum of the CH2HgCl radical in γ-irradiated polycrystalline methyl mercuric chloride has been analyzed for quadrupole effects; a detailed interpretation yields the following set of parameters: g⊥= 1.990; 1A⊥(2H)= 19.5 G; 199A⊥(Hg)=–437 G; 201A⊥(Hg)=+162 G; e2Qqz(201Hg)=–900 ± 50 MHz. The value obtained for the 201Hg nuclear quadrupole coupling constant is comparable to the results obtained in previous studies on mercuric chloride (from pure quadrupole resonance spectra of the solid) and methyl mercuric chloride (from microwave spectra of the gas).
