Possible five-coordination of the copper(II) ion. The CuCl2+ monodentate aromatic amine (isoquinoline)+ diluent (chlorobenzene) system

Abstract

E.s.r. spectra, visible absorption spectra, solubility isotherms and freezing point depression measurements were made for the CuCl2+ isoquinoline + chlorobenzene system. A possible interpretation of these results is presented in terms of an equilibrium involving a five-coordinate square pyramidal [CuCl2(IQ)3] complex, and an isoquinoline + CuCl2 complex of effective symmetry D4h.
