Lattice energies and thermodynamic parameters for salts having octahedral anions. Rubidium hexachlorostannate, Rb2SnCl6 and rubidium hexachlorotellurate, Rb2TeCl6

Abstract

Thermodynamic values are assigned for enthalpies of formation of the complex ions SnCl2–6 and TeCl2–6 corresponding to : ΔH°f(SnCl2–6)(g)=–1255.9 kJ mol–1 and ΔH°f(TeCl2–6)(g)=–1020.4 kJ mol–1 and the chloride ion affinities of gaseous SnCl4 and TeCl4 are assigned to be –278.4 kJ mol–1 and –304.1 kJ mol–1. Charge distributions derived from n.q.r. data appear consistent with the charge distributions assigned to the ions in the crystals.
