Mixed iron(III) and molybdenum(VI) complexes with Schiff bases

Abstract

Schiff-base complexes, [(FeL)2MoaXb], have been prepared [H2L =NN′-ethylenebis(salicylideneimine), X = O, a=b= 1, X = S, a= 2, b= 7; H2L =NN′-o-phenylenebis(salicylideneimine), X = O, a= 2, b=7; H2L = 3.3′-iminodiethylenebis(salicylideneimine), X = O, a=b= 1]. Magnetic properties and spectra (i.r., u.v., visible, and Mössbauer) are reported. The complexes are binuclear with bridging molybdate or thiomolybdate anions, but the spin coupling between iron atoms is much less than in the analogous oxo- and thio-bridged complexes.
