Amide complexes of thorium(IV) and uranium(IV) carboxylates

Abstract

Thorium(IV) and uranium(IV) carboxylates M(O2CR)4(R = Bun, Me2CHCH2, Me3C, CHCl2, and CH2Cl) and U(O2CCCl3)4 have been prepared: the investigation of the behaviour of these, and other carboxylates, with amides as ligands has led to the isolation of complexes of the types M(O2CR)4·xL [x= 3, M = Th, L = MeCONMe2(dpa), R = CF3 or CCl3 and M = U, R = CCl3; x= 1, M = Th, L = dma, R = CHCl2 or CH2Cl, and L = MeCONPh2(dpa), R = CHCl2: x= 0.5, M = U, L = dma, R = CH3Cl] and [M(O2CR)3L]2O [M = Th or U, L = Me3CCONMe2(dmpa), R = CF3, CCl3, or CHCl2: M = U, L = dma, R = CF3 or CHCl2, and L = dpa, R = CHCl2]. The infrared and Raman spectra of these compounds are discussed.
