Kinetics of the reduction of trisoxalatocobaltate(III) ion by iron (II)

Abstract

The reaction Fe2++[Co(C2O4)3]3– proceeds by parallel path with the rate law –d[Fe2+]/dt=k2[Fe2+][CoIII]+k3[Fe2+][CoIII]2. At 25 °C and ionic strength 3.0 mol dm–3(Na[ClO4]), k2= 6.9 dm3 mol–1 S–1, and k3= 1.50 × 103 dm3 mol–1 S–1. Value of k2 are tabulated for other ionic media.
