Reaction of bis(cyclo-octa-1,5-diene)iron with trimethyl phosphite, phosphorus trifluoride, t-butyl isocyanide, carbon monoxide, and bis-1,2-(diphenylphosphino)ethane; the synthesis of [Fe(N2)(diphos)2]

Abstract

Reaction of [Fe(1,5-C8H12)2] with P(OMe)3 affords [Fe(1,3-C8H12){P(OMe)3}3], whereas, PF3, Co, and ButNC give [Fe(1,5-C8H12)L3](L = PF3, CO, or ButNC); in contrast Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2 and dinitrogen give the Fe0 dinitrogen complex [Fe(N2)(Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2)].
