Electrochemical generation of a nitrene from NN-dichlorotoluene-p-sulphonamide

Abstract

Toluene-p-sulphonylnitrene (II) can be generated from NN-dichlorotoluene-p-sulphonamide (I) by electrolysis, as shown by the formation of 2-(p-tolylsulphonylamino)-1,4-dioxan (III) in the electroreduction of (I) in the presence of dioxan.
