A benzyne–triosmium compound as an intermediate in the formation of benzene from benzyl alcohol
Abstract
The bridge alkoxo-compound [HOs3(CO)10(OCH2Ph)], formed from [Os3(CO)12] and benzyl alcohol, gives benzene, benzaldehyde, [Os3(CO)12], and [H4Os4-(CO)12] at 146 °C in a sealed tube, benzene being formed via the ortho-metallated intermediate [H2Os3(CO)9(OCH2C6H4)] and the benzyne compound [H2Os3(CO)9-(C6H4)].
