Synthesis of the pulvinic acid pigments of lichen and fungi

Abstract

The total syntheses of permethylated derivatives of gomphidic acid (4a) and pinastric acid (5a), the pulvinic acid pigments found in Gomphidius glutinosus and Lepraria flava, respectively, are described.
