New routes to η7-cycloheptatrienylmolybdenum complexes: crystal and molecular structures of [Mo(acac)(H2O)(η7-C7H7)]+BF4 and [Mo(NCS)(acac)(η7-C7H7)]

Abstract

Reaction of [Mo(CO)3(η7-C7H7)]BF4 with arenes gives [Mo(η7-C7H7)(η6-arene)]BF4, whereas the halides Me3SiX (X = Cl, Br, or I) form [Mo2X3(η7-C7H7)2], the latter being reversibly oxidised to binuclear monocations; treatment of the mononuclear cations with acacH affords [Mo(acac)(H2O)(η7-C7H7)]+, which with anions (X) yields the neutral species [MoX(acac)(η7-C7H7)], both these paramagnetic complexes being structurally characterised by X-ray crystallography.
