Exchange rate of co-ordinated water molecules at acidoaquo complexes
Abstract
The rate of water exchange at an acidoaquo complex ML, kML–H2O, is related to the electron donating ability (En) of the ligand L, by equation (1); the proportionality constant γ is estimated for chromium(III), log(kML–H2O/kM–H2O)=γEn(1) cobalt(II), iron(III), nickel(II), and oxovanadium(IV), and is correlated with the softness parameter σ using equation (2). γ=–5·5σ+ 5·5 (2)
