Biosynthesis of firefly luciferin. Probable formation of benzothiazole from p-benzoquinone and cysteine

Abstract

Experiments showing positive incorporation of [14C]-p-benzoquinone into luciferin strongly suggest that the benzothiazole nucleus in firefly luciferin arises from p-benozquinone and cysteine.
