Colorimetric determination of phenylephrine hydrochloride in pharmaceutical preparations

Abstract

An accurate, selective and simple method for the determination of phenylephrine hydrochloride is proposed. The method is based on the formation of the nitroso derivative of phenylephrine in the presence of copper ions.

The method has been applied successfully to pharmaceutical preparations without prior separation of phenylephrine. Other substances commonly present in such formulations do not interfere in the determination.
