The acidites of weak acids. Part III. Some 3-benzoyl-1,1,1-trifluoroacetones

Abstract

A series of para- and meta-substituted 3-benzoyl-1,1,1-trifluoracetones have been prepared and their acidities determined. These compounds are between 2.17 and 2.27 pK units more acidic than the corresponding benzoyl-acetones. The temperature dependence of the pKa values of some of the compounds serves to confirm the anomalous behaviour of the recenlty studied nitroparaffins, as reflected in the ΔG° against ΔS° plot.
