Acid catalysed hydrolysis of N-alkyl-4-chlorobenzamides. Part II.

Abstract

Rate constants of hydrolysis for 4-chloro-N-n-propyl- and N-isobutyl-benzamides have been measured in sulphuric acid at 100.7°. Existing criteria of mechanism have been applied to the rate data. Taft parameters have been applied to the chemical shifts, δNH, the basicity constants, KBH+, and the rate constants of hydrolysis, Kψ, in sulphuric acid at 100.7° of a series of N-alkyl-4-chlorobenzamides.
