Functionalization of methyl groups in isopimaran-8β-ol, hopan-7α-ol, and hopan-15β-ol and derivatives

Abstract

Treatment of isopimaran-8β-ol and derivatives with ‘long-range’ oxidants has resulted in functionalization of the 10β- and 4β-methyl groups but not of the 13β-methyl group. Similar oxidation of hopan-7α-ol and hopan-15β-ol and their 21αH-epimers has led to functionalization of the 14α-, 18α-, and 8β-methyl groups.
