Reactions of chlorotrifluoromethyldisulphane

Abstract

Chlorotrifluoromethyldisulphane undergoes metathetical reactions with MeSH, EtSH, AcSH, CF3·C(O)SH,CF3·SH, AgNCO, and (CF3)2C:NLi to from MeS·S·S·S·CF3, EtS·S·S·CF3, AcS·S·S·CF3, CF3·C(O)S·S·S·CF3, CF3S·S·S·CF3, CF3·S·S·NCO, and CF3·S·S·N:C(CF3)2, respectively. Free-radical addition to olefins gives products which are formed by attack of Cl· and CF3SS· on the olefin. With tetrafluoroethylene, hexafluoropropene, hexaflurocyclobutene, chlorotrifluoroethylene, and 1,2-dichloro-1,2-difluoroethylene, CF3·S·S·CF2·CF2Cl, CF3·S·S· CF(CF3)·CF2Cl, CF3·S·S·CF2·CFCl·CF3, CF3·S·S·[graphic omitted]FCl, CF3·S·S·CFCl·CF2Cl, CF3·S·S·CF2·CFCl2, and CF3·S·S·CFCl·CFCl2 were prepared. Only tetrafluoroethylene gives a higher telomer, CF3·S·S·[CF2·CF2]2Cl. Insertion into the sulphur–sulphur bond does not occur.
