Raman difference spectra of solutions of electrolytes in formamide

Abstract

A phase-sensitive detection method for recording Raman difference spectra is described. The method has been applied to concentrated solutions of LiNO3, LiCl, and NaNO3 in formamide in order to determine the separate effects of anion and cation changes on the solvent spectrum. The Raman data are interpreted in terms of the ion solvation effects, and interionic association is demonstrated.
