Nuclear magnetic resonance studies of the difluoride ion. Part 1.—Single crystal study of potassium difluoride

Abstract

A1H and 19F magnetic resonance study of the difluoride ion in a single crystal of KHF2 at room temperature has been performed with the object of confirming the predicted angular dependence of the dipolar-split 1H and 19F spectra. An analysis of the line-splittings shows that in this salt the proton is centred to within ± 0.025 Å, that the mean H—F bond length, 〈r–31/3, is 1.168 ± 0.0025Å, which with the appropriate motional correction yields a value for the rz parameter of 1.138 ± 0.004 Å.
