Osmotic coefficients and activity coefficients of methylsubstituted ammonium chlorides and ammonium methyl sulphates in water at 25°C

Abstract

Osmotic coefficients and activity coefficients derived from vapour pressure osmometer measurements are reported for the salts MeNH3Cl, Me2NH2Cl and Me3NHCl and the series of salts MMeSO4 where M = NH+4, MeNH+3, Me2NH+2, Me3NH+ and Me4N+. Both series of salts show a steady decrease of ϕ and γ with increased methyl substitution in the ammonium ion.
